Think VOLUNTEERING with Habitat is just building?....Think again!
No matter what your talent, skill level or interest. There is something here at Habitat for you! See what opportunities are available and sign up to join our dedicated team of volunteers.
Construction/Build Site Volunteer Opportunities
Groups of 12-15 people and individual volunteers are welcome!
Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old; minors age 16-17 need signed parental/guardian consent. Previous construction experience not required, though it is welcome!
Are all your volunteers utilizing our Volunteer website and Training Courses? Now your volunteers can be educated on what to expect when they volunteer for Habitat for Humanity as well as learn safety techniques before they even arrive on the job site! Please direct your volunteers to www.hfhvolunteerinsurance.com. We also encourage you to establish a link to the volunteer website on your affiliate website.
Your efforts to complete safety training and encouraging those on your worksite to participate exemplifies your dedication to providing a safe jobsite, fostering safe working habits in your crew, and a focus on reducing injury or loss. Thank you!
Commitment: construction volunteers needed from 8:30am-4:00pm on build days. Volunteers are needed most Fridays and Saturdays, and some other weekdays as well. Contact our office to schedule a specific volunteer date, or to be added to our volunteer list.
ReStore Volunteer Opportunities
The ReStore is a re-sale store run by Scott County Habitat for Humanity. We sell donated furniture, building supplies, and household goods, appliances, and other items to the public. All proceeds are used to support the mission of Scott County Habitat for Humanity. All ReStore volunteers must be 18 years old (excluding paint bulking volunteers).
ReStore Volunteer Shifts: Volunteers are needed Monday through Saturday from 10:00am-1:30pm and 1:30-5:00pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to12 shifts total, preferably once/week. Contact Anne Hodges at 502-863-9200 to schedule volunteer orientation.
ReStore Volunteer positions/duties:
Cashier – cashiers will operate cash register, help customers check out, answer telephones, and assist with general customer service. Cashier/retail experience helpful, but not required.
Merchandise Cleaner/Sorter – will clean, sort, and organize new merchandise as it is donated. Great way to start involvement at SCHFH ReStore!
Receiving and Loading – assist staff in unloading donations and unloading purchases for customers. Strong back and willingness to have fun required!
Sales floor department leaders – volunteers will focus on particular sections of the store, helping customers find right merchandise in each of the following sections: home accessories, appliances, large building supplies, and small building supplies. Volunteers will also assist with pricing merchandise in each of these sections
Paint Bulking – assist staff in processing donated paint, and recycle into re-useable paint to be sold to the public. Great opportunity for younger volunteers ages 14-17!
Demolition and Deconstruction – SCHFH's deconstruction department can use individual volunteers and groups on an irregular basis to assist with partial and complete demolition of existing structures. Many materials salvaged from such projects are sold in our ReStore.
Office Volunteer Opportunities
Back up Administrative Assistants are needed to work Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm to help with answering phones, greeting visitors at the door, and other related responsibilities. A regular commitment of one day per week would be ideal.
Help with other office projects is also needed on an irregular basis.
Committee Volunteer Opportunities
Scott County Habitat's committees are hugely important to the successful operation and implementation of all aspects of our vision. We can use volunteers, at times, to serve on various Committees. It is recommend that new volunteers serve in another capacity at Scott County Habitat (construction, ReStore, etc.) first in order to better understand SCHFH before joining one of these committees.
